Old Market Hall, Oswestry, Shropshire

Take a look at the 1st photo of the old Market Hall, Willow Street, Oswestry, Shropshire - an Empty Woolworths building with unfortunately not as much character like its predecessor, now stands in its place.
Why was this building demolished and replaced by the boring square structure which now remains?? From enquiries we have been unable to find out exactly why
If you can shed some light please let me know.
Also, you can see on the second photo, this is further up Willow Street on the same side, and is now Last Order, (prior to this it was the Butchers Arms)
How far back can you remember about this building?? what was it called when you drank in there?? who was the landlord/landlady??
It would be great to hear from anybody with more information.

Church Street, Oswestry, Shropshire, Pictures

Here are 3 pictures, taken on the opposite side of the road to the Wynnstay Hotel in Upper Church Street, Oswestry. The hotel itself hasn't changed - apart from the prices! - and there is another example of a classic car on the 2nd picture looking down towards the town centre and Red Square / Festival Square.

there is a nice link with more photos of Oswestry - mainly rooftops - here

Beatrice Street, Oswestry, Shropshire

This picture is of what used to be Janes Pantry and W.T. Cobbs & is now occupied wholly by an established Insurance Brokers.

Church Street, Oswestry, Shropshire

This photo is of the crossroads joining UpperBrook Street, Lower Brook Street & Church Street to Upper Church Street respectively. Again, with no traffic lights or road markings, the road looks nice and "clean"

The building in view is now unoccupied and used to be an insurance agents. Can anybody leave feedback as to what used to be here?? Looks like it was a Dentists at the time this picture was taken in approximately 1960

Upper Brook Street, Oswestry, Shropshire

These pictures are of Upper Brook Street, Oswestry looking down towards Oswestry and also looking up towards Oswestry School. The last photo is of the Old Oswestry Hospital which now has a roundabout and some residential homes on it, much to the dismay of some Oswestry residents who felt this should never have been allowed.
What do you think?

Roft Street & Lower Brook Street, Oswestry, Shropshire

These are photos looking down Roft Street from Lower Brook Street and Lower Brook street itself respectively. Notice how the streets seem much wider and less cluttered. Probably due to not having any Road Markings and obviously having a lot less cars - It would be nice to see some photos from the same point of view to compare.
I will and get some pictures uploaded but if anyone has one already, please please upload it

Lower Brook Street, Oswestry

The location of this picture is now the CarShop Pitstop in Lower Brook Street, Oswestry - again a fantastic building which remains in our little old town !

Can you tell me what it used to be used for ?

Oswestry Motors,

This is a picture of the garage opposite the old Vic nightclub on Lower Brook Street, Oswestry - Look at the cars in the showroom !! Fascinating !!

Fantastic Church/Cathedral

Have a look at this picture - How many people can remember this fantastic looking building in Beatrice Street, Oswestry?? I'll give you a clue, the petrol station now sits on it !

From my enquiries, I believe that it had to be knocked down as it was rotting and unsafe - If you have a more comprehensive reason then please let us all know !!
